Local Business Spotlight – LeFoll & LeFoll Law Firm

Running a business takes dedication, organization, and strong relationships with the community. In this segment of my passion project, I explored what it’s like to own and operate a local business by interviewing Mr. John Locus, an attorney at LeFoll & LeFoll, a law firm located in Rocky Hill, Connecticut.

LeFoll & LeFoll has been serving the local community for nearly 50 years. Founded by Mr. Raymond LeFoll, the firm is a great example of a small business that has stood the test of time by adapting to change and prioritizing its clients.

Business overview

Although LeFoll & LeFoll is a law firm, it operates like any other small business. The firm focuses mainly on civil litigation, especially personal injury cases, but also handles real estate, estate planning, and probate matters. Offering a range of services allows the business to meet different client needs and remain competitive in the local market.

Day-to-day operations

Mr. John Locus explained that a typical day is very busy and involves much more than just working on legal cases. His day includes answering phone calls and emails, meeting with clients, drafting documents, attending court hearings, and managing deadlines. Just like other business owners, he must balance customer service with behind-the-scenes work to keep everything running smoothly.

Challenges of owning a business

One of the biggest challenges discussed was bringing in and keeping clients. Unlike large law firms that rely heavily on advertising, LeFoll & LeFoll depends mainly on word-of-mouth and its reputation in the community. This means every client experience matters. Providing reliable, high-quality service helps build trust and encourages clients to recommend the firm to others.

Community impact

The firm also plays an important role in supporting the community. When possible, the attorneys take time to answer basic legal questions or guide people who may not be able to afford full legal services. This shows that successful local businesses don’t just focus on profit, but also on helping others and giving back.

Personal insight

Mr. John Locus shared that one of the most rewarding aspects of his job is working with people. Whether it’s helping someone plan their future, resolve a legal issue, or recover after an injury, meaningful client relationships are a major part of why he enjoys his work.

The Takeaway

This interview showed me that owning a local business requires strong communication skills, time management, problem-solving, and commitment to the community. LeFoll & LeFoll is a clear example of how a business can succeed by combining professional expertise with trust, service, and long-term relationships.

Through interactions like this, students can better understand what it truly means to be a business owner and how local businesses shape our communities every day.
